The password to modify Internet Explorer settings or the password to actually log into Windows?

If its the IE password, I dont' think you can recover that...

As for the Windows login password, you can reboot the machine into Safe Mode (Hit F8 before the Windows XP splash screen when you boot up).

You can log in under Administrator, and go into the Control Panel, and remove the passwords off any of the user accounts.

you should have made a password recovery disc. well if you're lucky you arent using the computer's true administrator account. press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the login screen and enter the user name "administrator" and leave the password blank
