If you have purchased Antivirus software yet......
AVAST virus proction will do the job and it's free for home use - http://avast.com/.
I use to use McAfee and I switched. I've never had a problem and have caught a few items that tried to hit my system. Avast has all the features of any virus protection software out there.
I'm not trying to sell anything, just letting you know you have the protection and its free.
Enjoy.
It depends on what kinds of programs you download and install. You only get them from bad programs that you run, either downloaded or from some other source. (It is possible to be hacked... but this is very rare).
To minimize the risk of viruses:
- Always stay up-to-date with the latest patches and security fixes for your operating system.
- Do not download and run programs from sites that you do not trust.
I personally am very careful about what programs I run and my McAfee software has not detected a virus anywhere (even in downloads) for three years.
As mentioned in other comments, there are good free antivirus programs available which you can use.
if you don't have any anti virus software running and you're on a windows computer, then you're going to get a virus.
