the software is not found in the installed programs list but the security status is showing it's running. i removed it using the control panel before but still running

Right click the tray icon and click 'Stop on access protection'

and restart the system. It will never show up.

If you have to remove it manually, run a good registry checker after to get rid of any references left hanging around.
try norton protection center.
You need to right click on the icon in the bottom right hand corner and click on "stop Avast access protection".

If for some reason the normal uninstall does not work, you may have to download Avast's own Uninstall Utility.
