Every unit should have a security manager. Call yours ASAP. If you don't know who he is, he's doing a piss poor job. Next option is to call the MPs, who will likely get CID involved.

I'm not sure how it's even possible unless someone copied classified onto some sort of portable media and purposely uploaded to an unclass system. However, if it's truly classified, expect that your computer will be confiscated and the hard drive wiped (there's a special way to do this so the data is unrecoverable) or destroyed.
Talk to your chain of command if you can. Go straight to your company commander. If not then the military police or counter-intelligence people will want to hear everything. You cannot do this anonymously so be prepared to name-and-shame and put your balls on the chopping block. If you are right and can prove it you will not be punished. You will also probably be transferred somewhere far far away.
Who did you initially contact. Shouldn't be a 2d time. Call your commander, first sergeant, CID, or the Counter-Intel folks.

I would check the file association for the file type (ie. jpeg, jpg, gif). I have seen this happen when the file is trying to open with Microsoft Photo Manager.

Open My compter %26gt; Tools %26gt; Folder Options %26gt; File Types tab. Find the file type and associate it to Microsoft Picture/Fax Viewer or a photo editor you have installed.

I would recommend that you contact McAfee technical support directly and have them walk you through your settings over the phone. You'll also want to make sure you have the program installed correctly, properly configured, completely up to date and also that you have an entire suite that includes adware protection.

With PuPs (potentially unwanted programs) you may not want your security suite to automatically delete them all... but there should be settings within the programs preferences that allow you to specify what actions it will take.

Try running McAfee in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents malware from protecting itself.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.When the login screen comes up, log in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.

5.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance.

6.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Note that even if the anti-malware programs get rid of the malware, they may not be able to reverse the effects.

If you have your original mcafee CD, try running the installer, it will give you an option to upgrade or remove your current mcafee install.

You can also manually remove mcafee but this is a tedious task,this involves editing your services, registry etc, Try first by using the mcafee cd you have.

Disconnect yourself from the internet. Go to My Computer on your desktop and right-click. Click on Manage and click on services and applications then click on services. After the list populates stop all services associated with McAfee by right clicking and click on Stop.

Option1:

Go to add/ remove programs and it should work this time.

Option 2 if option 1 doesn't work you may have to reinstall everything

Go to C:/ Program Files/ McAfee and delete the entire folder.

Go to Start on the desktop and click on run

Type 'regedit' click Enter

At the top of the tree click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ Software/ Find the McAfee folder right click and delete.

Do the same steps for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

****Please be careful to not delete any other keys because it could mess your PC.

Since you are electing the Premium Edition, can you add more RAM? That OS can pull hard on the RAM listed, by the time you add more programs or play any big games it's going to get sluggish.

In general, SQL errors are a server side issue, meaning it's the site's problem, nothing you can fix on your end.

However, I just tried it and it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps if you try again, it will work. If it doesn't, that may mean your browser stored the broken version of the webpage in its cache.

When you reinstall windows, be sure to visit microsoft to get all your updates before you try and install any software. Some of the windows updates require you to install, reboot, then revisit windows update, you may need to visit the site after rebooting 3 times before you get all of the updates........

Install necessary programs to get on the internet, once your on the net get all the necessary windows updates then try to install Norton.....

i assume you are running this on a single computer. if you install programs like that, you usually have to type in a code so it can only be installed once, on one computer. call them and explain your situation, and they should help you out.
When you uninstall Nortons, some registry keys get left behind and it stops you installing Nortons. Go to www.symantec.com and download and run their free removal tool. The you should be able to reinstall it without any problems.

"is McAfee any good" would be an understatement. McAfee is one of the best Internet Security Suites ever. But as u mentioned abt norton, McAfee 2007 Slows down the computer slightly,definitely not as much as norton does. As of now BitDefender is the market leader, and i was bowled over by its performance. After installing BitDefender my pc was working with the speed which i had experienced without any antivirus installed a few months back. So u can be assured that BitDefender wont put ur pc in the first gear.

I'm a former Norton user. You're right about it slowing your computer; that's one of the reasons I stopped using Norton. I tried McAfee but I didn't care for it. What I've been using for a few years that I'm happy with is Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite ($70 and worth every penny). It has a firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware. It's easy to install, configure, and keep updated. Scans and updates can be set to automatic so you won't have to remember to do them. Scans don't use up too much system resources so you can continue with what you're doing without too much slow down. All in all an excellent security suite and I whole-heartedly recommend it. You only need one firewall and one anti-virus program but one anti-spyware program isn't enough. I use Ad-Aware 2007 ($30; more protection than the free version); Spybot Search And Destroy; and Spyware Blaster. I have very little and very few problems with malware. I also recommend CCleaner to keep your Registry clean.

It's a .reg file and so you have to right click and save it onto your computer. Run it and allow it to add the contents to your registry. Good luck...

what spyware remover exactly does it want you to download? You have been infected by some rogue anti-spyware program. Whatever you do, DON'T BUY IT.

Could be a bad modem, but it also could be a few other things. Check your phone jacks and make sure all the lines are secure and clean. You may also have a modem handshake problem with your ISP. You can call their tech support and have them walk you through changing the initiation strings. Also if you have call waiting an incoming call can nock you off.

Problem. I have to use an old Toshiba laptop with an early version of XP with service pak 1. When I downloaded and installed service pak 2 it refuses to open windows. To add to my woes, somehow all my restore points are wiped out. I booted in Safe mode but my internection connection wont work. So I manually removed all the secuity updates through control panel. Now I can get windows to run, and connect to the internet.

So you may ask why did I try to update? I am about to take a CS course offered by UIUC.

As decribed, this course "Examines the logical organization of databases: the entity-relationship model; the hierarchical, network, and relational data models and their languages. Functional dependencies and normal forms. Design, implementation, and optimization of query languages; security and integrity; concurrency control, and distributed database systems."

I know hardware and offen use software (like Vista, office XP quicken and Photoimpact, etc). But , i have never programmed. A man who specializes in CS told me to study "C" and the prereq of that course first, and then take only that course in the next semester beginning in the January next year.

I bought a C# book and i did not know that was C sharp and the advance level of C. I have no diffculty reading it. Can I skip C and start out with C# as having no CS background.

you can start with any programming language you want. but since you are just beginning. it is best to start with C. (or if you want start with visual basic). C is the language used in many softwares including windows so it is best to learn that since that will be your "foundation" in programming. once you have mastered C, move on to Java then C++ (you can also skip to C# if you want).

You'll probably want to "quarantine all spyware" just to be safe.

And if it turns out that it wasnt really "spyware" then there should be a restore from quarantine built into the program which should undo the changes that it made to the suspected spyware.

I'm not sure what Time Warner uses, but if it's respectable, it's probably safe to Quarantine all spyware. Exclude will keep it from detecting it. You might want to get a second Antispyware program, such as Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG Antispyware, or Windows Defender. The first two especially won't conflict with what you already have, and it is VERY handy to have a second opinion. I fixed computers for years, and it was very common to scan a computer with the best program available, and clean everything found, and then run another program, and find a lot more. Nothing catches everything.

Sounds like you have spyware. In my humble experience, the best bet is to back up everything you value. Make sure you have all the serial numbers and disks for your software and OS and start over. most people can get a computer backed up and redone in about a day - far less aggravation than the removal of spyware and/or virii.

Regardless of what you do - back up what you value.

My WinXP Media Center PC recently started giving me an error message on startup. The message says:

try.. System Restore... to an earlier date when everything was working properly u'll find this in ur system tools or control panel, if this doesnt work for you then save ur files on a disk, and reboot ur computer more than likely u may have to defrag ur computer files.

I've have the SAME problem. I tryed system restore, but at one time or an other you must update AGAIN windows security pack. That link you see above (I'm not sure who wrote it Sanjay maybe) is the solution.

Ya, thats great except for being a dell. You could build one for cheaper, but if you dont want to that will do.

It will run fine, dont worry about the RAM, I upgraded from 667 to 800 and it was a waste of money.

Do not buy the norton though, norton is terrible and will slow down your computer significantly.

I spend alot of time fixing computers that have viruses that norton cannot detect but basic free scanners pick up no problem.

Use spybot search and destroy, A2 (A squared), and ad aware.

Use only mozilla firefox for internet, do not use internet explorer because it allows sitees to load malware onto your computer as a cookie. Firefox does not and will ask you if any sites want you to open a file.

I found both McAfee and Norton's Security Suite packages to be very obstructive and intrusive. I used to have McAfee AV on my old Gateway and Norton Internet Security(Symantic) on my Dell. If it is Win NT or 2000 or XP u should check the owner of the file and the access rights of the file, Right click on the file/folder and select 'Properties' now get into the security tab there u can see the permissions u hav for tat file, u should have 'Full control' Inorder to do anything u want, it is so if u hav created those files but if ur not sure abt d owner jus click the 'Advanced' Button and select Owner tab it shows the owner of the file if it is some one ask them to grant all permision tats it

Some times Anti-virus software can only remove viruses by working in the safe mode. That means they can temporarily prevent it from attacking your computer until you turn it off and start it up again. If the message occurred only once after boot up, then Norton did it's job and blocked a virus. If it occurred on the next boot up again, you may have a virus Norton couldn't get.

Pop it in the drive, open your media player, and select "import". That will direct you to select a source. Choose the drive the cd is in and hit ok. Presto.

Better yet, if you have Itunes on your laptop, you can open it with the cd in the drive, and select the cd from the menu to the left. In the upper right corner will be a button that says "import." Click that, and presto!

I just bought an Acer Aspire 3680-2682 laptop: 1.86Ghz, 512MB DDR2, etc. It is completely clean, no additional software installed... used only for Internet Explorer. And it is SLOW!!!. Not as in connection speed. But slow as in, the whole machine slows to a crawl... mouse clicks and keypresses become lagged, etc. It even feels slower than my old 1.0 GHz Sharp PCMM20, which uses a firmware-emulated Pentium processor (Transmeta).

Is the problem Windows Vista? Or is it the Norton Internet Security which came pre-installed? Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Should I wipe off the HDD and install XP?

Are the any good benchmarks out there so I can try to quantify how bad this really is?

remove norton and replace it with something else. i like avast. its free.

also remove any other additional software that came with the computer that you know you dont need.

if that still doesent help, try getting some more RAM. 512 is a lot for runing vista, but it still works. 1 - 2 GB is best.

Vista is a huge failure for Microsoft, and Norton products are notoriously lame ever since Peter Norton sold the name to Symantec. Fall back to a Nortonless XP and I'm betting you'll be happier.
Sadly with Vista and 512MB of memory, this is normal, and on top of this you added Norton, making it even worst, you should change AV software, plus adding more memory, its pointless having a slow computer.
remove norton, that is very likely your problem.
install more ram and edit your startup programs, especially norton. Also, allow vista to update on the internet. Some of the updates have produced increases in speed over the release version.

A USB Flash is a thumbdrive, not a wireless LAN adaptor.

I presume that you are asking would you need extra sercurity should you use a USB wireless LAN adaptor instead of your wired LAN?

If you have switch over from Wired LAN to wireless, you do not need any extra sercurity if you already have Firewall programs such as Zone Alarm, Antivirus such as AVG and such that are kept up to date, You do not need to install any extra software. However, it would seem that you are using the inbuilt firewall in XP which is just basic and you might want to change over to 3rd party firewall programs.

However, if you are going to configure the router for use with the wireless adaptor, be sure to activate either WEP or better, WPA if it is available.

If you are connecting with a network cable, why would you even plug the usb wireless device in? That makes no sense whatsoever. To begin with, it sounds like you are confusing a usb flash drive with a usb wireless adapter.

First of all, if you are looking for a good usable image you probably want to stay away from the offshore gunk being schlepped off on the geeknet and big-box stores.

There are a number of ways you can go, as for viewing camera's on TV there are channel inserters available which will superimpose your video onto a channel on your CATV. Another method is wireless UHF transmitters, however the neighbours will also be able to see snippits of your video (Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your openness)

Another method is to use a networkable DVR which you can access through your Local network (could also be accessable remotely if you have a static IP). If you don't already have one, you will have to get a multi-port router for this to work. Cheap only 30 to 150 bucks.

You could also get a stand-alone surveillance system with a video switcher / sequencer or quad display. This will only record if you attach a recorder, but if you are looking to view only this could be the solution for you. If you take a look back in my answer history there was a similar question where I went into more detail on the differences between Switchers, Mux's, Quad's and DVR's. try nero first then if that doesnt work then get a new burner. its cheap anyway. 20-30 bucks.

data is stored on a disk by changing magnetic fields, there is a limit to how many tiny magnetic fields it can have and you can't change it, your disk comes at it's limit when you buy it

1. I click on a link from yahoo or google and it gives me this new window callec "online security check" and i click out of it bc i know its a virus. Norton picks it up but never gets rid of it.

2. Another is when i type an email or anything really, my cursor whereever it may be on the screen moves the cursor writing to where the cursor is. its very annoying when i am typing things.

One was called smitfraud-C and the other was virtuamonde (Spelling?)

You can check on them to make sure they're legit if you want to be sure - probably norton lists spyware removal tools that are really spyware installers and these ones are clean.

and you should also check out www.download.com and get some adware-free spyware/malware destroyers like "ad aware" "spybot search and destroy" and "AVG antivirus" --- they are all free, I believe.

Personally, I'm not too keen on McAfee, the only one of their products I use is siteadvisor ( http://www.siteadvisor.com )...

It has happened to me several times that I went to fix a friends computer and McAfee (which they had installed and paid for) didn't manage to get rid of the virus/trojan that had infected the pc. The next thing I usually try is downloading AVG, and believe it or not, 80% of the time it manages to get rid of it.

For firewall, well it depends. Zonealarm for example (one of the most well-known free firewalls) is well known for eating up system resources, and especially for slowing down the system startup.. But it is quite a good firewall.

Comodo personal is also very good (and free).

Personally, I just use the built in windows firewall. Many wannabe geeks tell me I'm an idiot for doing that, but they don't realise I have many other layers of security set up on my pc so that I don't have a huge need for outbound protection. (If you're confused by this: the main gripe many people have with the windows firewall is that it only monitors incoming traffic, not outbound. So if you have a piece of malware on your pc, it can connect to the internet..) My philosophy is to keep my pc clean in the first place and it has served me well over the last three years..

Do this....

First go to run/type msconfig/ then startup/ then uncheck anything that looks strange "if you are not sure what you are unchecking the google it just to be sure as some of them are necessary for xp to work.

Then after this you will need to do a restart, after restart a box will pop up make sure you check the little box in the right hand bottom corner as this will stop it keep on asking for a reboot.

This will hopefully stop it reloading all the time.

Then turn off system restore by going to start/right click on my computer/properties/system restore and turn off system restore.

Then do a restart as you are going to do a scan in safe mode, you can do this by rebooting and before the boot screen comes up keep pressing F8 repeaterly until you get a black screen with instructions on.

Choose safe mode and the computer will start to load in safe mode. When the process has happened which is about 30secs your desktop will look larger than normal, just open your antivirus program do a scan and see if that sorts it out.

Windows XP Repair Installation
